Our
New
Facility
Arkansas Rice Depot is now operating from a much larger facility, thanks
to the good work of our Board of Directors and Catherine Johnson, our Capital
Campaign Counsel. In just slightly over a year, this dedicated group of
individuals raised over $1.6 million to purchase and renovate the former
Barrett Hamilton Building located at 65th and Scott Hamilton in Little Rock.
The facility is named the Arkansas Rice Depot Sturgis Distribution
Center.
Our Capital Campaign kicked
off with a challenge to the Arkansas Rice Depot Board of Directors to make
the initial gifts to start the campaign. We are delighted that 100% of our
board contributed to the campaign. The board, staff and campaign counsel
pledged a total of $179,135. We truly have a special group of people working
on behalf of Arkansas Rice Depot.
It was important that funds to pay for the building not take away from funding
needed to run Rice Depot programs. A new building was pointless if it took
away from money to purchase food or operate Rice Depot on a day-to-day basis.
Our campaign committee called on many new corporations, foundations and
individuals to fund the campaign, so our staff was able to concentrate on
our mission of providing sensible solutions to hunger in Arkansas.
An exciting component of our new building is the Ottenheimer Volunteer Center.
Volunteer groups now have have a heated and cooled warehouse within our warehouse
in which to work. After facing temperatures in excess of 100 degrees in our
warehouse last summer, we know our volunteers are thrilled!
Volunteer groups will soon be able to have lunch under the trees in a shady
area with picnic tables; snack in our break room, or use the Tyson Conference
Center for meetings or devotionals.
Much
Remains To Be
Done...
We consider ourselves blessed to have our wonderful new facility. We are
now operating from a space more than three times larger than our previous
building -- and which a freezer four times larger. However, with a
bigger and better building come an increase in the cost of operations. Donations
specifically designated to assist in these expenses are greatly appreciated.
We are also looking to our donors and friends to help us equip the new building.
Please pray for our needs listed below. Perhaps you can donate something
that will complete our dream. God bless you!
| > Six picnic tables and four park
benches for outdoor volunteer break area |
> 10 folding tables (six or eight
foot)
> One pallet jack |
> One electric pallet jack
> One box truck |
